Description of the operations that can be performed for the conservation of a painting on canvas:

- photographic documentation (before, during and after maintenance; under visible, ranking and UV light)

- preventive facing of the pictorial film

- resolution of tension problems of the canvas and distressing of the supports

- antiseptic treatment against biological attacks (fungi or insects) with pest products and with anoxic atmosphere

- suturing of tears in the canvas

- application of strip-lining for new stretching on the frame

- lining with traditional or synthetic glue paste

- consolidation of the lifted parts with natural or synthetic products

- cleaning of the pictorial surface, both mechanical and chemical

- filling of the lacunae of the ground layers

- inpainting with varnish colours of the film losses

- final varnishing

Treatment of the stretcher:

- structural restoration and resetting of the missing parts

- anti-woodworm treatment

- antioxidant treatment of the metal parts

- consideration on replacement of the stretcher if really necessary
