Research conducted in the parish archives, in the chronicle books of the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Settecà, led to the identification of the sculpture's author. Thanks also to the expertise of Wolfgang Moroder of the Museumgherdeina in Ortisei, the artist was identified as Josef Moroder, an Austrian painter and sculptor.

The first mention of the Deposed Christ in question in the Settecà parish books dates back to 1926. The sculpture was carried in procession for the Good Friday ceremony until 1956, when its transportation was prohibited by episcopal decree.

The restoration repaired the artifact's poor state of preservation and brought to light the quality of the sculpture.
