Fundraising for the restoration of a valuable polychrome wooden sculpture depicting Saint Nicholas the Bishop
The results of the restoration of the painting "Portrait of a Nobleman with a Letter" from the Correr Museum can be read in the Bollettino dei Musei Civici Veneziani (2023).
Afflicted by heavy and thick overpainting, particularly the landscape seen through the window to the sitter's right, the portrait required surface cleaning and improved tensioning.
The restoration also provided the opportunity for study, as the inscription on the letter the sitter is holding is now more legible. It has been suggested that he be identified with Egidio Owerick, first Dutch consul in Venice in 1615.
